This is the entrance to Ankor Thom, an ancient city next to Angkor Wat.  The city includes multiple temples befitting such a grand entrance.  The street is still used today by  local people riding bicycles, as well as tourist traffic.
There are 400 temples in the area around Siem Reap, Cambodia, and about 1,000 in the entire country. If you look closely at the entrance to this temple, you will notice examples of the intricate detail carved into the stonework, including the figures beside the windows.
The temples are open for individual exploration, often without encountering very many other people, except for the crowds at Angkor Wat.  It creates a sense of discovery as dazzling architectural features can be found around many corners.
The entrances to the temples are often grand streets and bridges that cross moats and are decorated with statuary lining the sides.
I preveously mentioned the intricate details that adorn the temples. This is a typical example.  The large scale of the temples at times causes the eye to focus on the big picture and overlook the details.
