Torres del Paine National Park near the souther tip of Chile is indescribable. These phot0s will not do it justice. This photo shows a waterfall connecting two glacier-fed lakes, with one of the massive mountains providing a dramatic, scenic backdrop.
My husband and I spent this past Christmas holiday season at the Explora Patagonia Lodge. I took this photo from our hotel room. The lighting and clouds changed so dramatically that I set my tripod up next to the window in our room so I could capture the scene in different light. The horns and towers of the mountains that give Torres del Paine its name are visible.
This is also part of the view from our room at the Explora Lodge. The lakes have an acqua-green color to them because of the mineral content of the water that melts from the glaciers that are the source of water for the lakes.
A family of foxes had their den under the lodge, so we enjoyed watching the cubs frolic around, and their mother watch over them.
Here is another view from our room. My husband and I think it is worth the extra money to stay in a place like the Explora Patagonia Lodge so we can enjoy the view at sunrise, sunset, and other times, rather than staying outside the park and driving during the day, but not experiencing the variety of lighting and cloud conditions.
The concept of Explora Lodges is that they take you our each day on your choice of activities. The hikes in Patagonia gave many opportunities to observe wildlife, including many guanaco, a member of the llama family. They are a relative of the camel.
