Cabra Castle, County Cavan, Ireland

For our last three nights during our trip to Ireland in May, we stayed in Cabra Castle, about 90 minutes northwest of Dublin.  It was an elegant castle amidst beautiful countryside.  Above is the main entrance.
Oscar, an Irish wolfhound, seemed to be the Lord of the Manor.  He walked, slept, and lounged around any place he felt like it.  He was very docile.  One of the stairways in the castle is decorated with photos and an oil painting of him.
Cabra Castle has a golf course, and golf is complimentary for guests.  We did not play golf, however, as we were too busy exploring the sights in the surrounding countryside, which we will show in a future post.
This is a look down the main staircase of Cabra Castle.  The castle was in the same family for about 300 years until it was sold and became a hotel in the mid 20th Century.  It was purchased by interests from the Middle East and was intended to be used as a private estate, but they sold it instead, and the purchasers reopened it as a hotel about 25 years ago.
This is a photo of our room at Cabra Castle.  The purchasers of Cabra Castle have converted the buildings in the courtyard into guest rooms to expand the number of rooms in order to make the property viable as resort.  Our room was one of the courtyard rooms, just behind the main castle building.
