This is the sunset over the over-water bungalow where we stayed in Papeete, Tahiti. It was relaxing to hear the waves under our room and to be able to swim off of the porch of our bungalow at the Intercontinental Resort.
This is the view from our bungalow across to the island of Moorea. It was entertaining to watch the activity in the ocean, as people paddled and sailed back and forth all day. On the horizon of the water you can see the waved breaking on the coral reef that surrounds the island.
Lovely hibiscus flowers dropped from trees onto the grounds of the resort.
The pools on the resort grounds had turtles and fish. The resort even had a salt water lagoon where guests could snorkel and watch the fish and other sea creatures sheltered by a reef within the lagoon, without even going out into the ocean.
This is the sunset view of Moorea from our resort on Papeete. The views across the ocean to Moorea changed throughout the day, but sunset was obviously the favorite time of the day.
We took a cruise ship from Papeete to visit other islands in French Polynesia and the Cook Islands. This is the superstructure of the ship as we prepared to sail from Papeete.
Papeete is the largest town in French Polynesia. This is a view of Papeete from the balcony of our stateroom on the cruise ship as we sailed out of port. You can see the clouds hovering around the mountains in the center of the island, which is typical of the South Pacific, and the clouds were catching some of the colors of the setting sun.
